China Lake is a natural area wedged between Highway 16 and a residential neighborhood right next to Tacoma Community College. This small lake park includes a few different access points with sparse parking that connect to a series of trails that go around the lake and connect to the surrounding streets.
The main entry point is along South 19 Street at the southwest corner of the park. From here, a short stretch of trail enters the park and immediately forks. Choose either a clockwise or counterclockwise route at this point by heading right or left.
Heading clockwise, the trail parallels the lake shore for 0.3 mile, passing a spur trail heading left to Winnifred Street. Carrying on the trail comes to a junction at the north end of the lake. Head right to continue a loop around the lake. Turning left will take you north through forest to the 2 other entry points: the corner of Winnifred and 13 Street, and 12 Street.
