Mount Rainier Area

Go! The road to Paradise opened three weeks ahead of schedule and the weather for today (February 27) calls for a sunny and very cold day!!

Of course, be prepared. Always. Our weather yesterday called for partly sunny and very windy (which we prepared for) and instead it snowed the entire time we were out snowshoeing.

Because nobody has been able to get to Paradise for weeks, the snow was perfection. And maybe because of the light snowfall and seemingly terrible conditions, we only saw two others on snowshoes and four skiers all day long. But it was a gorgeous and constantly shifting landscape as the fog and snow moved in and out. We snowshoed across the frozen Myrtle Falls, followed roughly up the Golden Gate Trail to the bench and a little up the hill toward the saddle to Pan Point, but the weather was way too iffy, so we turned around and retraced our steps.

By the time we got back to the parking lot (at 3 pm) the mountain was actually poking out of the weather here and there.

Be careful out there. And ENJOY!

How exciting to have a rare human free day in the park! I bet it was so pristine. I love your tree photo, beautiful!
