After years of planning and design work followed by another couple seasons of hard digging we're excited to announce that the new Lyle Loop (Orange) is connected to the main trail (Blue) at the Lyle Cherry Orchard !!
THANK YOU!! to all the hard working volunteers who have made this vision a reality and the members and donors to both Washington Trails Association and Friends of the Columbia Gorge.
The new Lyle Loop adds about 2 miles of new trail. Along the western edge of the loop the side slope is very steep and the trail is constructed to a very narrow width to minimize its visual impact.
We highly recommend that people hike the loop in a counter-clockwise direction. While it is not impossible to pass people there, going in one direction will make it feel less crowded and protect the trail (passing on narrow trails tends to damage the outside edge of the trail).
Formal maps and signage are coming, in the meantime please use this photo or this map: https://caltopo.com/m/C2SS to aid in navigation. (note that there are other paths out there that are not part of the planned designed system depicted on this map. Some are user created routes, others are deer trails - often its hard to know if there is a difference). Please pay attention to where you are, leave your itinerary with a friend who can help direct search and rescue if you don't return as planned and always carry the ten essentials!).
