Trail snow-covered at times - gear and expertise recommended

Just as a FYI to those looking to get to Pete Lake and Cooper Lake.
Attempted this on Saturday, road was significantly covered in snow just shy of the turn off at the bridge. Snow was still pretty deep in spots on the road but melting quick.  (patchy)
Hiked to the Pete Lake trail head, still very covered in snow.  Talked to a few people while getting there that were coming back.. They had snow shoes and said that route finding was difficult, lots of down trees etc. Doable, but time consuming.

I had never been to cooper lake before, but there appears to be two large trees down just after the turn off for the boat ramp that is making two large snow walls.  Easy to climb on foot.. but one more thing to clean up in the near future if that is indeed the case.

Could you drive to the Cooper Lake boat ramp?

No, I was not able to drive to the boat ramp. I made it to roughly here, 47.419974, -121.158051.

What type of vehicle were you driving?

A van.
However, a lightweight, dedicated off road set up could likely make it to the boat ramp. The blockage just past it is a 4ft vertical wall, with another one just behind it. Snow was firm but wasnt very dense on top. It packed down easily and compressed on wet layers under. Driving around in other areas I had to watch for centering out on the axles as the snow packed down under me.

I have Subaru Outback w/ off-road wheels and truck AT tires - usually can chew up the snow. What do you think?

I think you will center out with the snow packing up under you.

Thanks for all the info. I'm hoping to get up there Sunday. Sometimes the private homes on the lake hire a plow to get in there. With M-Day coming I'm hoping someone might "break trail". Was the lake ice free?

That was my thinking, too on M-Day.
Lake was ice free, yes.
