My husband Dave, my friend Sue, and I hiked yesterday, and it was the hike from hell. We had planned to go to Green Mountain, but the Suiattle River Road was closed 8 miles before the Green Mountain trailhead. Instead we walked along the road about 1 1/2 miles to the Huckleberry Mountain trailhead. Sue did not recommend the Huckleberry Mtn. trail, but it was our only option unless we drove for miles to another trail. The trail goes through a wooded hillside with no views until you get to the top. The trail was very overgrown and brushy, with lots of nettles and climbs up relentlessly, although it is not very steep most of the way. About 1 mile in, I walked into a yellow jacket nest and got 10+ stings. A couple of the yellow jackets were caught in my socks and continued to sting me as I headed up the trail to Dave and Sue. We managed to get the stingers off my ankles and continued for a ways, through brush and mud. We went in about 4 miles and turned around. I don't recommend this hike due to its condition, the 1 1/2 mile walk along the road, and the lack of views.
